New Life Birth Services delivered my third child in my home. I felt very comfortable knowing MariMikel, and her apprentices Tara and Meredith truly cared for me and my family. We had a fabulous experience. Thank you, Elaine

My Emily was born on January 12 of 2000 at home with MariMikel, and it was such a wonderful experience that I referred a friend to her when I found out she was looking for someone. I don't think I could thank her and the apprentices enough.

I have MariMikel to thank for the three blessed, joyous, homebirths of our children. In fact Jesse (aged 3) was the only one born in Austin directly under MariMikel's care, but her inspiration has been such that the births of Katherine (2) and Philip (6 months)were as wonderful. Charles and I miss MariMikel very much and feel so fortunate to have had her help in the most important moments of our life together.

MariMikel was the midwife at the birth of my son Dylan 11/18/91. Dylan is my third child, the second born at home. His birth was in every aspect an incredible and joyous occasion supported by MariMikels competence and love. MariMikel - I am so happy to have come across your page on the internet and though we now live far apart you are often in my thoughts. Thank you again for all you have done. Much Love, Peggy

Kali Kristine Rynearson who was delivered by Ms. Penn and associates and breast fed for the first 3 and 1/2 half years of her life has recently been enrolled in Northwestern University's Mid-West talent search which identifies "gifted" children. We feel that her strong beggining in life has contributed to her early success. Thank you!

I had my daughter Amber Leigh with MariMikel and loving crew over 20 years ago in 1981...it was a wonderful experience!! The education and sharing (and potluck dinners) of the birthing class was a wonderful prelude to the birth, and holding my little bug for the first time....there aren't even words for it (and I have some pretty funny pictures of MariMikel eating spagettiOs at 2 in the morning during my labor). I was glad to see the New Life site and send warm wishes to all who do this amazing work....Linda

MariMikel delivered two of my children at home and helped me with twins at the hospital. I am so grateful for her experience and incredible wisdom. She is a truly awesome woman!
She has inspired me to become a doula and I may just go on to be a midwife when my kids are older!

MariMikel delivered my son, Hayden, on March 22, 1982. I was so grateful to have such a wonderful experience! My son is handsome, intelligent and a true "free spirit" and I contribute this to a very healthy start in life with the help of MariMikel! I would not hesitate to recommend her, she is remarkable, intelligent and intuitive, to name but a few of her many qualities. Thank you, MariMikel, for your outstanding help and guidance through my pregnancy and Hayden's birth!

MariMikel, Cathy Walker, and Michelle Fitzgerald delivered our daughters in 1980 and 1982. Our first daughter, Maple Rose, was a breach baby. I was under a lot of outside pressure to give birth in the hospital. MariMikel agreed with our decision to give birth at home, we delivered our 7lb 2oz baby in 3 hours. No complications, no stress. Twenty two years later I still look at our birth pictures and grin. Thanks MariMikel!

Jeff and I were young and quite nieve when we became pregnant in Austin back in 1979, we were so blessed to have been poor in the early days because these means brought us to the People's Community Clinic and they inturn hooked us up with the midwives. They were so sweet and tried so hard to connect with us even though we were extremely shy. But they hung in there anyway. On the day of the lunar eclips we went into labor and they came runnin. When our baby Govina came into the world she was so relaxed that the midwives had to tickle her feet just to let her know she had arrived. I hemorraged a bit but those couragous ladies jumped right on it and all was well and wonderful! Thank you so much Clair, Debbie, and that sweet little midwife whose son is named Ziggy Smiggy. Blessings to you all, Ginger Rain

I am interested in a consultation with you. We are about half way thru our twelfth pregnancy (seven live, four early SA's) and we would like to consider a home birth. I met a lady named Kara (or Cara) yesterday (she lives in Leander) who told me about you and I am even more interested in birthing at home after talking with her and reading your website. When would be a good time for us to meet and do you do these consultations at our home or at your office (home?)?
I look forward to hearing from you,
Laura de Mocskonyi

Hi there Marimikel! I am so thrilled to find your site...and just wanted to add my experience for those looking into a homebirth experience with you.
I met Marimikel and her son Deven at Whole Foods in 1987. Deven was just a baby. He was cooing at me with big beautiful blue eyes. I commented on how special he was and we began to talk. I was four months pregnant with Christopher and very nervous about having a hospital birth. My doctor
at the time would bring up Caesarean at most of my
appointments. Marimikel was so positive and full of information and kindness. She invited me to come and check out some books from her library to ease my mind about what was ahead of me. One day
I called her and took her up on the offer. I felt so comfortable and confident after my first visit with her that I chose to go through the rest of my
pregnancy with her. She also had an amazing group of other midwives and apprentices that supported me. When Christopher was born it was the most amazing day in my life! These women were so in tune, caring and supportive. He was born at 9lbs!
That was incredible to me. Brian, my husband, was able to catch his baby and cut the cord. He was so moved by this experience. I remember that after they checked Chris out completely and got him cleaned and dressed...Brian took him out into the yard and walked around with him for an hour!
I had to ask for my baby back. :) It was all a miracle. Marimikel will always be one of my heros! Thank you, Marimikel!
I love you!

My son was born at the birthing center on Mothers Day 2002. After a short labor at home, Marimikel suggested that I come on the the center. As my husband and I were preparing to leave our home in rural Georgetown, I felt the need to push. Well, it was the longest ride into Austin that I have ever endured, but I got there at 6:06 AM and my son was born at 6:16 AM. The only thing I regret is that the whole thing came on so fast that we forgot the camera. I still count this day as the happiest, most fulfilling, most blessed day of my life. It happened my way, my sons way, and most of all, Gods way---Billie

Hi MariMikel,
It is lovely to see my last comment still on your website. We miss you very much and would love to see you. VERY broke at the moment, so little chance of a trip to Austin, but I do dream of it, as does your twin Jesse who is tremendously proud of being Texan. I see that you are participating at MANA next month, hope it all goes well. I also dream of coming and doing an apprenticeship with you one day...and that documentary. In whatever way I am sure we shall meet again soon. With very much love, Anna
CommentsHey MariMikel! You and Julia and Stacey helped me through a 8.12 birth (Dylan Vincent Hutzler)at 7:33 p.m. on June 28, 1989. I am currently living and teaching art in New Orleans with 2 more little ones ages 6 and 4, both born (in a hospital) with no intervention at all through the help of a fantastic OB/GYN,Margaret Roberie. It is possible to have a dignified birth at a hospital with no unnecessary interventions, little monitoring, immediate breast-feeding and go home the same day. In Lousiana it is like harboring a felon to hire a midwife...Unfortunate, but true. Thanks for my wonderful experience...although a long and powerful one 15 years ago. Love Natalie Hutzler (now Maloney)
CommentsHi
I'm so very glad that MariMikel is online. My mother was blessed to have her at my birth in 1980 and I was double blessed to have the lady who brought me into the world deliver my son last year. To give my baby a healthy start in life and be honored as a pregnant woman is how it should be. MariMikel has been wonderful in the new mom months that followed giving loving advice to the sleep-deprived. Thanks- Josy Johnson
